Advocacy & Government Relations

We advocate for
a more just world.

We build coalitions, forge common cause, and advocate for a Kansas City where no one stands alone.

A more just Kansas City and world for all

Non-Partisan Legislative Advocacy

Justice doesn’t happen on its own. It takes showing up, speaking out, and building the relationships that make change possible.

For more than 80 years, JCRB|AJC has represented the voice of the Kansas City Jewish community on matters of public policy into the halls of power — local, state, and federal.

As a non-partisan organization, we cultivate relationships with elected officials across the political spectrum — because protecting our community and advancing justice requires allies on every side of the aisle.

"The Jewish community is only truly safe in a pluralistic society that protects the wellbeing of everyone. So, we build coalitions, forge common cause, and advocate for a Kansas City — and a world — where no one stands alone."
Showing up. Speaking out. Building relationships.

Our Advocacy Initiatives

We advocate for policies and positions consistent with our organization’s positions and Jewish values. Our advocacy focuses on three priorities: combating antisemitism and hate in all their forms; standing with Israel and advocating for its security and place in the world; and advancing social justice for all minorities, guided by our deepest Jewish values.

Combating Antisemitism

Antisemitism is the world’s oldest hatred — and it is surging. JCRB|AJC counters it at every level: working with Congress to pass legislation, forging coalitions with faith communities, and building the public’s understanding of what antisemitism actually looks like today.

  • Legislative advocacy for hate crime reporting, Holocaust education mandates, and faith community protections
  • Co-convening the Muslim Jewish Advisory Council with Crescent Peace Society — joint advocacy against hate affecting both communities
  • Organizing coalitions with other faith and ethnic groups to present a united front against hate
  • Community education using AJC’s Translate Hate glossary and the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism
  • Hosting national and regional events such as the ‘Driving Out Darkness in the Heartland’ symposium
Israel & Global Jewry

We work to secure bipartisan support for Israel’s security from our elected officials — and to deepen understanding of Israel’s importance to Jewish people worldwide.

Since Israel’s founding in 1948, JCRB|AJC has been the primary advocate for the Kansas City Jewish community’s perspective on Israel and the Jewish homeland.

  • Advocacy for strong, bipartisan U.S. support of Israel at the local, state, and federal levels
  • Support for a negotiated resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that allows both peoples to live in safety and dignity
  • AJC Project Interchange: bringing Kansas City-area civic and community leaders to Israel for firsthand education and relationship-building
  • Coordination with AJC’s global network to align local advocacy with international priorities
  • Educational programming and resources on Israel, anti-Zionism, and the post-10/7 landscape

Social Justice & Civil Rights

Guided by the values of tikkun olam (repairing the world), b’tselem elohim (the dignity of every human being), and the biblical command to welcome the stranger, JCRB|AJC advocates for the rights of all minorities — because no community should stand alone for justice.

  • Advocacy on racial justice, immigration, and LGBTQ+ rights at the local, state, and federal levels
  • Building coalitions with other minority and faith communities facing discrimination
  • Engaging elected officials to advance policy positions grounded in Jewish values and civil rights principles
  • Public positions on racial justice, immigration, and LGBTQ+ rights — informed by both Jewish tradition and legal precedent

Our focus areas include advocating for policy to advance racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and immigration policy.
